What restaurant has the best fried chicken in NYC?

The chicken is marinated, then fried expertly in huge iron skillets. The result is the platonic ideal of fried chicken: crunchy/crispy skin, interior very moist without being the least bit greasy. It's just on another plane from most of the fried chicken I've had, and I grew up in the South, so I know some fried chicken.
You can order the fried chicken alone, but I always go for the all-you-can-eat Southern buffet, which at around $10 is a total steal. The buffet will allow you to sample the excellent cornbread, collards greens, okra, etc. as well.

This is a pretty legendary soul food spot in Harlem, and I first heard about it having a conversation about the best fried chicken in the city. It's pretty standard to get a waffle with your chicken here, though I didn't really find the waffle to be anything that special. The fried chicken is certainly some of the best in the city though. Amy Ruth's is up there with Dinosaur BBQ on the list of the places you have to try when you're in Harlem.

Incredible stuff, in addition to just Fried Chicken, but there are definitely a ton of different inventive Fried Chicken & Waffle combos you need to try, like the Chicken Parm & Waffles or the General Tso's style Fried Chicken.

This is one my favorite restaurants in the east village, and I've had multiple people mention to me (and I'd agree) that it's the best fried chicken they've had in the city. It's the perfect combination of juicy and crispy. Their entire menu is great, including wonderful cocktails, but if it's your first time definitely try the fried chicken.

I'm a fan of pretty much everything Blue Ribbon, and their fried chicken spot is no exception. This is one of my favorite LES spots to drop by, especially if I'm going out in the area. The fried chicken is amazing, but you can never go wrong with the tenders or the chicken sandwich as well.

If you have never tried korean fried chicken, you're missing out in life. They triple-fry it, and it has more of a textured, soft crispiness versus traditional American fried chicken. I have to say that I definitely prefer it, especially for a place like BonChon that's relatively cheap.

You'll have to wait in line to eat here, most likely, but it will be worth the wait. And that crispy, perfectly golden chicken biscuit is worth the increased risk of a heart attack. Life is short, eat well :).
Add some hush puppies and sweet tea (and don't forget PIE!) and you'll be transported right down south.

I'm on a seefood diet. I see food, and I eat it.
The name is pretty spot on here: they serve fried chicken and champagne, a combination that goes together surprisingly well. To prepare the chicken it's dipped in buttermilk and pan-fried one piece at a time, and it comes out perfectly crispy and juicy. Lot's of great appetizers here and of course I recommend getting a bottle of bubbly with your order.

I have to say that this is a topic that is very near and dear to my heart (and blood pressure). I've been to all of these listed places- Charles', Pies & Thighs, The Redhead- and that all do make excellent fried chicken. However, not 2 years ago, when Chefs Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth opened up this fun, eclectic little spot in the East Village, the rules of NYC fried chicken changed.
Their chicken is brined in sweet tea. Yes, I said it, and I'll say it again: they brine their chicken in sweet tea. In a world where everyone does some sort of buttermilk marinade for their chicken, it's refreshing to see someone doing a different and tasty take. (For those who don't know sweet tea, please look it up)
When ordered, the chicken is breaded and fried, then dusted with lemon and served with tabasco honey. The first time I took a bite out of one of their chicken thighs, I was ruined for fried chicken and knew it. Juicy, sweet, savory, slightly salty- these are all sensations that I experienced with just the first bite. Further bites only reinforced my beliefs that this was the best fried chicken I've ever had north of the Mason Dixon line, potentially ever.
Reading my review does their chicken no justice, you MUST go there and taste it for yourself. you're really hungry, have it served with their buckwheat waffles and cheddar (but that's for another post.). Thank me later.

My name is David. I am a 38-year-old foodie living in NYC who happens to be disabled. I use a wheelchair to get around the city. I used to use walking crutches, but that no longer works well for me.
I am writing this because as someone who adores food I have noticed a need for accessibility information as it pertains to restaurants, food markets, food events, and anywhere else a foodie might venture. Each time I want to go somewhere, I find myself doing tons of research by phone and online: Is the entrance accessible? Are the bathrooms accessible? How does the staff react to a customer who has a disability? Are the walkways in the establishment able to accommodate a wheelchair or other mobility assistance device? Is there a menu available in Braille for blind patrons? Through my travels through the NYC food world and beyond, I hope to convey as much information about this information and the food itself at all the venues I visit. I will rate each venue on a scale of 1 – 5 (1 being lowest, 5 being highest) on the following factors:
Accessibility of the entrance (wide doorway, barriers to entry)
Accessibility of the bathrooms (accessibility of the entryway and stalls, grab bars in stalls) Unfortunately, I’m only able to personally evaluate men’s rooms at this time.
Accessibility of walkways (wide or narrow, how closely packed is the space)
Staff’s reaction to people with disabilities
Does the restaurant have a Braille menu?
I do my best to look for accommodations as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

I love their fried chicken! Especially the kind that has the unexpected cinnamon flavor in the breading. That is such a genius addition.
I personally find Hill Country BBQ to be so-so, but their fried chicken joint is awesome. This is more of a lunch spot, and there's often a massive line that runs outside the door if you get there after 12pm. If you're willing to wait, or at least get there a bit early, the payoff is worth it. I'm a huge fan of the fried chicken as well as the tenders. The biscuits are also great: hot and crumbly, just how I like them.

One morning my wife and I were watching the Mind of a Chef with Ed Lee and we got an intense fried chicken craving.
We live on the Upper East Side, which we consider in some ways a dessert of interesting food experiences. And going out to eat on a Sunday morning for a bite of fried chicken was a very risky decision for us. s
When you eat something as simple as fried chicken you plead with the restaurant, please don't disappoint me. And the Writing Room did not disappoint. Juicy buttermilk fried chicken 🍗, waffles and maple syrup, and a side of bacon 🐷!
We didn't try anything else but the fried chicken and it was excellent.
