Cheap eats to fine dining and everything in between
While the Redhead often times shows up on best fried chicken lists, it's really a quality comfort food restaurant top to bottom, and one that definitely seems to fly under the radar. The space is small, the menu is fairly simple, and yet everyone I know whose been here has loved it, and while it may be growing in popularity I still consider it a bit of a East Village hidden gem.

I am so excited to finally add something that isn't in Manhattan! Most people aren't going to travel all the way to Forest Hills for food, but you should, and you should go to Dirty Pierre's. This place defines "hole-in-the-wall". This itsy bitsy dark dirty little bar is tucked under the LIRR station on a cobblestone street. The food is amazing and cheap, plus the people are fantastic. You MUST get the mussels. It will be the best favor you ever did yourself. They are buttery garlicky ridiculousness and you might drink the sauce straight from the bowl. Go for brunch, the food is awesome and you get 2 beverages included for $18.00. Oh did I mention they give you crayons to draw on the tablecloth? While pork buns are easily found throughout the city at major establishments like Momufuku and Ippudo, Baohaus takes the crown for best bao in the city. This hole-in-the-wall establishment, lit by an electric blue neon sign out front, is at East Village as a restaurant can get. The walls are covered in customer-made graffiti, and the seating is close to impossible to get, but something about the bao keeps people coming back for more. The most popular Chairman Bao is flash-fried pork belly that has been simmered in rice wine, soy sauce, rock sugar, ginger, star anise and Cherry Coca-Cola. The pork is then places inside of a bun that has been steamed in lotus leaves. It is then topped with a Haus relish, Taiwanese red sugar, cilantro and crushed peanuts. Pair the Chairman with Taro Fries and AiYu Jelly Lemonade for a simple meal with tons of flavor.

A fun dark and swanky place for Russian food and flavored vodkas. I wouldn't even bother with the martinis. Just sip the infused vodkas.

great bar for drinks , great bar food a bit different than "normal bar food". the scotch eggs with sriracha are the best. the middle eastern twist is a nice change from wings and pizza.
