Manager at Blue Ribbon Federal Grill
This is the bar that dedicated itself to only serving rare, new, and unusual beers. The bartenders know almost too much about every beer they serve and the selection is forever rotating. If you're looking for rare and unusual beers, this is the place to go.
Life is too short to skip dessert
This was the first bar my friend recommended to me when I started getting into craft beers. Still my favorite!

Wine Director at La Sirena
Technically Torst (pronounced kind of like thirst) serves as a tasting room for Evil Twin's beer, but that being said if you haven't drank much beer from Evil Twin, you should start. Much like Pretty Things from Massachusetts, Evil Twin operates very much in the "we will make what we can when we can," because they brew at 10 different breweries in 6 different countries and don't make much volume of anything. It's no surprise Danish brewer Jeppe Jamit-Bjergso teamed up with Daniel Burns (worked pastry at Noma in Copenhagen then ran David Chang's test kitchen in NYC) to open this craft beer bar and restaurant Luksus in the back. The tap list is pretty stellar and the beer keg system they have is absolutely nuts. It was custom built for the place and looks like something from the future. The bottle list has an incredible selection of vintage beer, sours, Gueuze, Trappist, Abbey, and stouts which will keep you wishing you had a few more bucks and an extra liver to keep drinking. The Scandinavian cuisine offers something different for bar snacks and goes exceptionally well with the food. And, if you have a chance to dine at the Michelin-starred restaurant Luksus in the back room, you should. It's reservation only, so you have to plan a bit more for that, but I ate there about 2 years ago and will never forget the flavor of the most intense chicken consommé I have ever tasted with a bottle of Jolly Pumpkin La Roja Ale.
I cook with wine. Sometimes I even add it to the food.
I've heard amazing things about Luksus, but none of my friends have been since they changed the format of the tasting menu. It's pricier and longer but I'm still strongly considering it...I've been to Torst a few times and love the vibe!
This place has a great vibe and crowd and always a lot of fun....the tapping system is very cool as you pointed out and of course the selection is fantastic!
Life is uncertain, eat dessert first.

Luksus, which is connected to Torst, is a Michelin starred restaurant that showcases an impressive beer pairing selection to accompany the tasting menu. The atmosphere is clean and poised, the space is cozy and the volume is low; all of these elements combine to allow the Scandinavian-inspired food to be the centerpiece.
Blind Tiger Ale House has a beer list that is dynamic in that it changes fairly often. When I want to try something new or a style I haven't tried before, it's one of the first places that comes to mind. It has a cult following, a great atmosphere, a fireplace, middle-of-the-road pricing, and only a mild 'ale house' smell that is almost attractive.
Executive Sous Chef at Neuman's Kitchen
Since you're in the 80's, you should take a trip to City Swiggers. This beer bar/shop always has rare offerings on tap. It's one of the few places to pick up something from Hill Farmstead, arguably one of the best breweries in the US, but difficult to get your hands on. The bartenders are extremely friendly and willing to teach you the nuances of beer, and it's never packed.

Excellent recommendation. They had a fantastic beer flight here as well. It's definitely a hidden gem, probably due in large part to their location. Put this in the east village and it would be packed day and night.

Amazing beers with a emphasis on quality instead of variety. Can be difficult to get but they don't price themselves out of the market like some Belgian brewers.

DBGB is one of my favorite places in NYC and has one of the strongest beer menus, hands down. Not only is the food handcrafted, unique, and shows it's strong ties to Lyonnaise style Bouchons, but you can find an enormous selection of craft beers that are ever changing. Daniel Boulud is one of the long-standing backbones of the NYC culinary scene. So many of us that cook around the city, who have worked for him, know the impact his restaurants have had on our careers. This is because he is never satisfied and drills that into all his chefs. Any concept restaurant he opens, he goes into with full force. Now take that laser focus and put it on beer. Not only do they do some of NYC's best burgers and charcuterie, but they have a Beer Sommelier on staff to ensure the beer selection can always stand up to the food. From unique farmhouse saisons, to having local treasures from Transmitter Brewery in Queens, to black IPAs from England, the list goes on. Sit in the dining room and have a fantastic meal or post up at the bar after work, take a craft brew that will surprise and delight you no matter the occasion.

For craft beers and old school dive bar vibes there are few places as on point as Rabbit Club. The list is not as extensive as some others but they carry some very rare brews and set the bar for "beer speakeasies" for the last decade. Just a heads up, it's cash only so hit an ATM before you head inside.
My favorite bar in Greenwich village. This place is a classic!
This place has hundreds of imported Belgian beers most of which, unless you are a huge Belgian beer aficionado, you've never heard of. The bartenders are super knowledgeable and can guide you through the incredibly daunting list AND there's an amazing back yard area. It's right across the street from Fette Sau if you get hungry and need a break as well.
Any time's a good time for a margarita
This is the only place on the list I haven't been yet, but if its by Fette Sau thats all the more reason to go. I love belgian beer so this sounds great!

I love the cannibal! They have been open for a while now. Great selection of craft beers along with servers, bartenders, etc with a lot of knowledge. It's always quite busy there, I believe they take reservations. I did a short pairing with the food, I recommend asking them for help on the selections. Very personable, cozy, delicious, and crafty!
My husband loves craft beers and this is his favorite spot in Manhattan. He would definitely vouch for it!

Francis and crew not only have a killer selection of beer by the bottle and draft, the service is always friendly and fun, and the food is top notch.

Zack and David are long time friends and some of the most honest and hardworking people I have ever known. They did their research for a long time before opening ABC's doors and immediately got hit hard by Sandy. They carried through though and have always been one of my favorite spots for a good beer selection I know I can trust and enjoy. They got my interest in beers going for the first time really and Zack helped teach me most of what became my foundation of beer knowledge. Their cheese selections have also always been on point. The staff is mostly long time employees who are always willing to talk and hang out, discuss life or beers with you. The vibe is amazingly comfortable and cozy, everything I want when I just want to chill out with a hard to find sour, or dobblebock.
Wish I could work as an ice cream tester for Ben & Jerry's
I think Avenue C has one of the best concentrations of great bars in the city...it's a bit underrated in my opinion! I haven't been here but have heard great things...I will definitely be making a stop by!
This is the only place on the list I haven't been to and it sounds great. Any particular or favorite brews you would recommend here for a first-timer?

The Sampler is a great Bushwick spot to find some rare beers on tap. If you're a beer afficianado I think this is the kind of place for you.They have a great local selection and some tough to find products from around the world.
Inside is small and cozy. They also boast a great whiskey selection as well. I like that they actually do 1 oz. portions for less so that you don't have to fully commit to a 2 oz. portion.
They also do growlers, bottled and canned beer to go. So if you find something you really like or are just too drunk to try, you can take it home for less, and save it for later. The staff is also super friendly and passionate about their selection.
Not to be biased, but Italian food is the best
Looks awesome. I'm always on the hunt for good bushwick spots living just a few stops away. One of those neighborhoods with tons of great places like this that you never otherwise hear about.

The Pony Bar is so many things rolled into one. Its a great neighborhood bar where you will see lots of regulars and friends, above average food, and a small (20 taps) (1 cask) but ever changing and always fantastic beer selection. They keep it simple and aren't snobby like some beer places can be. They often have brewery spotlights that will feature very hard to find beers.

This place has the wonderful grace of a dive-like bar, and it's an awesome place to check out some amazing beer. You will often find a few hidden gems they've kept in their back pocket for a while but either way, it's always an interesting selection!
