While the Redhead shows up most often on best fried chicken lists, they've got a great menu of southern-inspired comfort food and source much of their produce from local farmers markets. The space is small, the menu is fairly simple, and yet everyone I know who has been there has loved it. They did get one star from Frank Bruni in the NY Times a number of years ago, but otherwise don't get much media attention and still fly somewhat under the radar.

This place was introduced to me by a guy I used to work for in the neighborhood. I love baked goods (especially cupcakes) but a lot of NYC's cupcakes tend to be somewhat underwhelming for me (I've never been a fan of Magnolia's and even Butter Lane falls flat for me sometimes) but Molly's has yet to disappoint. The cake is always moist, the frosting is the right consistency without being too sweet and their stuffed cupcakes are a true delicacy/decadence. If you're in the neighborhood and you're looking for great cupcakes this is the place to go. Plus a portion of their profits go to local schools so you can feel good about yourself while you're indulging.
